It gets tiring to repeat yourself for self promotion so I do it less than I should, but today I have a convenient excuse to say that The Banished Vault is on its largest discount yet of 20% off!
Buying it nets you in my self-estimation a challenging and rewarding game about space travel, religion, and mathematics; and directly supports us in continuing to make more interesting games. That said, it's not for everyone! If you fall into that category I won't hold it against you, but I would appreciate you telling someone in your life who would enjoy it – someone who enjoys puzzles and math would probably like it!
If you have already purchased it, I really appreciate and would only ask one more additional task: give it a positive review. I like hearing nice words about the things I spend years of my life on, it helps balance out the occasional uncharitable negative reviews we get, and it pleases the algorithm.
Anyway, thanks!
The relaxing, turn-based mode of play introduced by the tutorial slowly and rewardingly grows into very crunchy procedural optimization/puzzle-solving as you ramp up the difficulty and take bigger risks. In effect, you're devising your own puzzles to solve when faced with a new solar system, because the short-term goal to "get enough fuel to escape" is at odds with the long-term goal to "build up your reserves in case the next solar system is even less forgiving," and different players will solve that balance in very different ways, depending on how much they want to push their luck.
One caveat: You will want to play with a copy of the manual close to hand as you work out exactly how to handle your next turn. I fully endorse buying a physical copy to thumb through while playing, as it's a lovely little artifact in its own right.
