okay but I really do think a tremendous number of people are suffering from trying to argue over the definition of something without actually knowing what their own position is
weeks of passion deep into "are video games art" and not ten seconds of it spent on "what do I think art is, why do I think that, and why do I care"
and that's the example that isn't gender
I'm not sure a lot of people can have positions anymore instead of copying by example. I don't know how to explain it just that there's a pattern there that feels like they just were sick for every class about how to think critically about things people tell you
Just wish I had a better idea of how people decide who to copy, because I've met too many who are great at applying critical thinking (of a sort...) to opposing ideology, but they're clearly getting fed talking points from some rando on some Facebook group or whatever, and why did they decide to believe that
cynically? bad drug education across the board and even medical dispensaries shirking their responsibility is probably a big part of things, of the ones who aren't drunk.
realistically? if your entire friend group agrees with it that seems good enough for people now that the loudest experts in the world are actually just completely clueless and it's clear to people watching, post-2020. How much of that is that and how much of it is like, inability to have Reading Comprehension thanks to schooling being systematically dismantled, I have no idea.
But I do think drugs + youtube are probably a not-insignificant part of it in the 20something set especially, having been intermingled with a few people like that.

the question people actually hear is "are video games good/do you like video games"
