As I was whining about on here yesterday, due to prevailing conditions I was barely able to do anything yesterday, which is too bad for me as July 4th is one of the few times the Bay Area really goes in on flag imagery.

But I spent a little time in SF and came away not totally empty handed.

Black and white infrared photo of a person photographing someone else in front of a giant disco ball art piece with american flags and a human-scale statue of liberty. The photographer is half-crouching to get the camera position they want. Shadows of people are cast towards the mirror ball, which is visually counterintuitive.

The shadows on this one are wild. Fairly sure it's just a function of abundant light being reflected off of adjacent buildings, but I really did a double take when I opened that one up in DXO.

Black and white infrared photograph of oversized disco ball, US flags in sand buckets, and a statue of liberty, in the parking lane of a street. Some of the flags are washed out and appear entirely white.

The seasonal theming here was, shall we say, low-effort. I'm not sure whether the flags on the lower left demonstrate that some flags were printed differently or whether it's just that light was falling more strongly on some of them.

Black and white infrared photograph of two people. One is wearing a stars pattern shirt on which the stars are somewhat faint due to IR rendering. The other is holding a tricorn hat in hand and wearing a suit that appears shiny.

In this instance, one person is wearing a star pattern shirt, and for some reason the other person was dressed as a whole-ass redcoat??

Black and white infrared photo of two people, one whom is wearing a shirt with a bald eagle, us flag, and the declaration of independence on it.

Shooting flash with the Ricoh and ye olde nikon SB-26 worked well. With filtration on the flash, there's about a 3-stop offset, which is pretty substantial. But the flash's auto thyristor mode worked quite reliably. However, I still need a more powerful flash to provide more flexibility and better recycle times.

While there are some flags in the background, this isn't relevant to my project; however, it's always fun to see what IR does to fabric texture.
