There's currently an issue where deeply-nested comment threads squish up against the box edge and become unreadable, as detailed in this bug report. This got me thinking about alternative designs until I came up with something I liked and decided to implement.

This script flattens replies down to one indent level and collapses them behind a click-through. If a reply isn't directly responding to the one above it, then a quote is embedded with a clickable link to the comment it's replying to.

Small thing to note: this script automatically disables the reply button after 7 indent levels. This assures your replies can be read on any supported screen size without having to do stuff like turning the userscript off to check.
