i did the topsters thing, but tried to organize mine into groups of 5 based kinda on theme... not trying to order these, because i don't want to:

row 1: stories i'll think about forever

  • 13 sentinels: aegis rim
  • the house in fata morgana
  • disco elysium
  • unreal life
  • eastward

row 2: classic rpgs that define the genre for me

  • chrono trigger
  • xenogears
  • live a live
  • final fantasy viii
  • chrono cross

row 3: games that break conventions in ways that i'll think about forever

  • ghost trick
  • undertale
  • moon
  • cave story
  • nier: automata

row 4: (relatively recent) big budget titles that have pushed past their budget and into my heart

  • elden ring
  • armored core vi: fires of rubicon
  • xenoblade chronicles 3
  • the legend of zelda: tears of the kingdom
  • final fantasy vii remake

rpg outliers that have made me think different about gameplay conventions

  • vagrant story
  • final fantasy xii
  • paper mario: origami king
  • scarlet nexus
  • resonance of fate

Nice to see a bit of love for a change for Orgami King. Game had a bunch of entertaining writting for inspecting so many objects and random NPC. Soundtrack is fanastaic and may have the longest soundtrack of unique songs of a Switch game bar Xenoblade 3 it seems.

Glad to see unreal life mentionined and Eastward. I need to go back to Eastward, I had the opposite issue of the common complaints, I didn't like the gameplay much but really enjoyed the story cutscenes. Playing Scarelt Nexus now actualy, combat is kinda fun but I am not really feeling anything for the writting/story/characters at all so far myself.

I need to go back to Moon. Their new spirtual sucessor game look amazing.

Final Fantasy VIII and Scarlet Nexus! Final Fantasy VIII I played wayyyy back in 2000 or so and loved it the most out of the Final Fantasy series, meanwhile Scarlet Nexus took me by surprise. One of the first games I played when I bought a new Xbox. :eggbug:
