The English alphabet could almost kinda sorta be analysed as a fucked up logography, due to the fact that it basically functions as a bunch of morphemic ngraphs which convey information about meaning, etymology, and historical pronunciation. Adding to the "case" for this is that English is highly analytic, aside from the conjugation of Germanic strong verbs, pluralisation of terms like "mouse" → "mice" via umlaut as opposed to the "-s" suffix, and a few other bits of fusional behaviour that have been conserved from Old English.
Like, "-o(u)r", for example — "this is an adjective of French origin, and this part of the word is pronounced the same way as the '-er' suffix".
