Pikmin 1 is a survival strategy game. Pikmin 4 is a collectathon, in the same vein as Mario Odyssey.

I've had to be really careful with pikmin 4 because even after playing it for quite a while my instinct is still "I have to play a full day at a time" and that gets really tiring since the days are a lot longer with caves
it's been nice to play in shorter sessions though!
I was surprised to learn you can save mid-way through a cave and the game would start you on that sublevel next time you turn it on!
And yeah, doing caves makes the day stretch on forever.
