Whoever was working on Dave the Diver and thought it'd be funny to make jokes at Dave's expense for being fat is completely out of their mind.
You've got a great game and just wanted to put a stain on it for no reason.

Yeah its such a bummer. And not the only game I've played that has had that caveat, sadly. Devs trying really hard to get those "jokes" in!
It's a strange game in a few ways, honestly, like the fact that it's made by a team at Nexon the people who make all the MMOs, they just spun off a small part to make small games. There's also sections of the translation that feel uh, machine translated, which wouldn't really stand out (I play a lot of weird indie games I get that it's not always possible for a tiny studio to do the highest quality translation) but this one got shown off in like, big showcases and stuff and has maybe the highest budget pixel art I've ever seen.
-shrug- strange little game.
i tolerated it for a while because the guys Dave knows treat him terribly in other ways
so I was like "I guess this is just a game about a guy who gets treated terribly by everyone"
but then another fat character is introduced and insults dave and dave's response is to grumble that that character is also fat and i was just like
i am tired
also even if i insisted on taking the jokes in the most charitable way ("maybe they're not meant to be at his expense, everyone is just mean in this game"), it just makes the atmosphere of the game feel a lot darker and less fun than it is presumably supposed to be

This is the moment I got to that led to making this post, and I think that moment speaks VOLUMES about what the writers really think. Plus, 5 seconds after this moment, they oggle over the second character for being basically a "lame fat otaku."
It's so dumb.

in a way, i'm glad that part was in the demo, because at least i knew about it without having to buy the full game...
