blogging (ashamedly)

Hello! I'm an artist, writer, and game developer. I work for @7thBeatGames on "A Dance of Fire and Ice" and "Rhythm Doctor."

I run @IndieGamesofCohost where I share screenshots and spotlights of indie games. I also interview devs here on Cohost.

Aside from rolling my eyes a bit at their sense of humor and hype-building, and agreeing with most of the takes that Lotus laid out nicely over here, not really any hot takes on triple-i now that i watched it.

Blurry definition of "indie" and "initiative" aside, showcase was decent and basically what I expected it was gonna be. Games basically for the "hardcore Steam crowd": roguelikes, action RPGs, city builders. I feel like city builders don't get much of a shot in Nintendo/Sony directs or The Game Awards so it's nice to have a showcase for mouse-centric games.

There was definitely a few games in here that I'm gonna get.

Again, their branding and attitude make me roll my eyes a bit but I guess I'm glad to have another showcase competing in the Devolver and Wholesome Games space. I feel like "getting into a showcase" is basically the rat race that all indie devs are forced to do at this point, so it makes sense for another one to crop up. I appreciate them not having a narrator like Indie World and Wholesome Games do, but also the pacing was a little wonky.

I would've loved for "the triple-i initiative" to be something like a series of grants for indie devs or something more interesting like that. But I can see myself watching this again next year. Hope it helped the devs at least.
