Anyone regularly use a search engine that they genuinely recommend, other than Google, Bing, or DuckDuckGo?
Might actually consider switching.

Been using Kagi for ~2 years. It's not perfect because they use others' index so you know, there's only so much they can do to prevent the SEO-bait garbage but I never have to resort to Google to find something so I think it's good in that regard.
Note: they do have some AI-bullshit features (summarizer and an "assistant" 😒) but they dont present them unless you want to engage with them so I'm fine with it (hopefully i dont have to eat my words).
yeah! like @tati said they have a trial that doesnt require a credit card though.
kagi is what ive been recommended but it's a subscription. there's like a 100 search trial w/o cc and when i use it it's been really good
only tangentially related but I've been clicking through Wikipedia to find pages, it's really useful if you just want to find facts or academic information, not so much for community/fandom stuff though
in practice i have mostly been using 2 different proxies of sorts for Google Search: Mullvad Leta (a value‐added service which requires a subscription to their VPN service to use) and Startpage (ad‐supported and includes several more features like image search and proxying results).
oh god i just realized that not every option is gonna have image search, fuuuuuuuck
yandex; i'm pretty sure they at least partially lease their index from bing (like kagi/duckduckgo) but the old boolean style seatches Just Work there
