I run @IndieGamesofCohost where I share screenshots and spotlights of indie games. I also interview devs here on Cohost.


I think its funny that if youre knee-deep in enthusiast and dev communities, you'll walk away with thoughts like "people are sick of cozy games" or "the word cozy feels annoying or icky or unhelpful."

Yet meanwhile, on the opposite side of the spectrum (a more casual player unconnected to games writing), I got a text from my brother yesterday being like "My wife is wondering if you know any more cool cozy games to play now that she's done with Stardew and Palia."

My guess from what I see around is that the word is still a somewhat useful shorthand (and google search term) for people who like those games but dont read games writing.

Even if the rest of us are probably sick of it by now ๐Ÿ˜‚

I feel like the term to know here is "Market penetration". Lots of cozy games exist, they just haven't all found their players yet, and one reason they have such a long lifespan is that a large portion of the demographic (young adult women) don't play games incredibly often.
So, I think it's like, there's a ton of cozy/lifesim games, but they haven't reached their full market potential yet to the common person, and once they do, then everyone will be tired of them and they'll go out of fashion.
