blogging (ashamedly)

Hello! I'm an artist, writer, and game developer. I work for @7thBeatGames on "A Dance of Fire and Ice" and "Rhythm Doctor."

I run @IndieGamesofCohost where I share screenshots and spotlights of indie games. I also interview devs here on Cohost.

Hi! I'm making a point to get over the awkwardness to reach out to folks on here before we disperse in a couple of weeks.

I just wanted to say thanks for being such an enjoyable presence on my bit of Cohost! You have a really infectious positivity to your posts, and I really appreciate the way you use Cohost as a chance to have conversations rather than just broadcast what you think. More than most I feel like you discard the poster>reader relationship, and it makes it very easy to share and develop ideas with you, even the small ones.

Your Indie Games account has also felt like a nice return to how I used to use the internet - going through the backlog on TIGSource and playing demos. I've found simple awareness to be a great motivator in playing more indie stuff, so without IGoC I'll probably be making more of an effort to keep up with itch.io myself.

I'm not planning to jump ship to some other social media after Cohost, but I'm planning to keep up with the folks who made Cohost what it is for me. I think we're both on the RSS bandwagon now, so I'll see you around!

Anyways keep up the good posts!

(I hope you don't mind me publishing this ask. If you do, let me know and I'll delete it.)

Hello! Thank you for pushing past the hesitation and reaching out! This was really kind and made my day.

I'm glad I could be a positive and enjoyable presence. Maybe that's the highest form of compliment you can give someone who posts on the internet, haha.

The poster>reader relationship is a funny thing. It's nice to break the walls down and just talk to people. I feel like it's a good thing to strive towards, when it's possible. Sometimes it's not possible. Sometimes you get overwhelmed (by the number of people, or how they talk to you), or someone crosses a boundary and acts way too familiar or rude towards you. Then, you're kind of left with no choice but put that wall back up in order to maintain a healthy distance.

Luckily for me, I didn't have that much experience with people being weird towards me. So for now, I can continue being blunt, honest, and conversational.

I'm glad that Indie Games of Cohost was able to help you that way! That's exactly what I hoped for. Maybe someday I'll try to make a similar account somewhere else.

I'll see you around through RSS! Keep in touch, never hesitate to reach out, especially since my personal blog doesn't allow for comment sections.

I don't mind at all! I wouldn't use asks if I was unwilling to have someone hit that button - though it might get weird if I start seeing my own asks all over my feed... didn't think that part through. The asks character limit is a bit of a challenge in itself, so I'm glad it doesn't come across too blunt.

The poster>reader thing is honestly my biggest concern about moving to a more blog-heavy format - trying to keep that wall of status from forming in my mind on platforms that are so one-to-many by design. I'd be delighted if someone reached out in that way, which is why I'm doing this little run round with the people I follow and interact with most, regardless of their perceived status - that was kind of the whole point on this website!
