it's so fucking funny that the 1999 HxH anime ended on a cliffhanger, fans were disappointed with that ending, then it got picked up again as a limited OVA series, and then it ended on the scene of Gon and Killua using Accompany and landing.

on the flip side though..........honestly i think that would've been an interesting place for the entire story to just end, and the left is up to your imagination

I know that Hunter x Hunter will probably go down in history as Togashi's biggest and most beloved work, but...............

among many other things...

When Gon has his big moment (in Chimera Ant), I feel absolutely nothing.

When Yusuke has his big moment (in Dark Tournament), I'm still like almost moved to tears every time.

I dunno if it's apples and oranges to compare those two climaxes. Or maybe it's proof that Killua is emotionally more the "protagonist" of the story? Or maybe Togashi just gets all is juiciest stuff for his heroes out of the way in the first half of his stories, then comes up dry.

I just feel like Gon never got anything that felt like it had any sort of thematic weight or interest for him. I love Gon, but it never felt like his story went anywhere.

I’ve been listening to the Media Club Plus podcast, which is very lovely, so I’ve had Hunter x Hunter on the mind for the past few months.

Around the end of high school, I had read the HxH manga up through the Chimera Ant Arc. It was pretty definitively one of my favorite manga at the time. Over time, while I remember it fondly, it’s kind of faded from my favorites. I started to sour on it a little, even.

(For context I’ve read the synopses of what happens after the Chimera Ant arc ends, too. No spoilers in this post though.)
