Sega paid some youtuber to make a parody animation to promote Shadow Generations and honestly I think it was a good choice.
- It's actually really well animated
- It's actually funny imo
- It actually does a decent job of recapping Shadow and getting you curious about the game
I also think it goes to show how much easier it is to capture the feeling of Sonic in 2D animation rather than 3D. Plus, it's very easy to swap between "funny" and "epic" vibes when you're animating in 2D (check 2:58-3:28 in the video) because they play with similar ideas, like smears, quick timing, exaggerated poses and contrasting sizes.
i've never shipped Sonic characters in my entire life (i'm not super into shipping) but that recent IDW Sonic issue got me shipping Sonic and Blaze maybe...

If you've ever been curious about Sonic as a series but haven't known where to start, I have some recommendations! I think Sonic is a cool and still somewhat unique thing because it takes cartoony characters (like a Mickey Mouse or Felix the Cat) and lets them jump around in cool action sequences through the lens of a shonen anime. It's colorful and usually pretty light-hearted, and I think the character designs are pretty iconic.
There's two handy places you can start without prior context, to see if it's something you'd be into...
