they can't conceive of someone who's willing to bite the genocide bullet and vote for biden that might even remotely want to criticize his strategy, to them anything less than unwavering support acting like a senile rapist is the second coming of christ is the exact same as a trump vote.

"biden is sabotaging himself electorally with all the groups that got him elected in the first place" is not inherently a statement saying that voting doesn't matter, but liberals can't conceive of criticism as anything but that, because they can't conceive of anything better than the democratic party in its worst possible self-sabotaging state.

The first is that at some point in the 2000s (kind of hard to pin down exactly when) elections stopped being about a candidate people genuinely liked and were viewed more akin to the trolley problem. This sort of resignation that the only thing that's possible in an election is a clash of bad vs evil.

This is obviously a bullshit way of thinking. If we continue the metaphor we should be taking steps to knock the trolley off its tracks, and on a subconscious level I think people are starting to do that.

Now to some extent I do sympathize. Reactionaries are advertising a soft coup right in the open, and given that the ruling class are primarily lawyers, "it's technically legal" pretty much gives license for them to get away with it.

However, that doesn't somehow make Biden beyond reproach (OH FUCK NO HE IS NOT). It says something that John Stewart of all people, the person who helped shape the budding political psyche of people our age during the Bush Jr era, saw major pushback for daring to even have the most mild criticism of Biden.

That leads to this second quality shift. There has been this change of thinking that daring to criticize something will scare away people from it. Thus the way to show support is to basically emulate the propagandists, suppress any bad news or criticisms, and only speak of this in glowing tones.

Electoral politics are just the latest in a relatively long line. Back in the early 2010s they did this with therapy (this one particularly hurt me, since we were psychologically abused and we were essentially given a gag order about it, lest we "stop somebody from getting therapy that needs it"). More recently it's been vaccines and birth control. And now it's about electoral candidates.

I get this strategy to an extent. We live in a culture where propaganda is one of the two core aspects of the economy (the other being war, including domestic warfare via cops). Giving your enemy more ammo is a legit concern (which is why we often opt out of any conversations about our criticism of China).

However, this is still bad. These problems still exist, and if we don't bring them up our enemies will, and will control the conversation. What's more, our failure to bring up problems that are objectively true (even if our enemies distort them) gives our foes more ammo then if we brought them up ourselves, particularly since it leads to a kid of "foot in the door" position making people more susceptible to their way of thinking.

To cycle this back to electoral politics, the Dems rely on this "code of silence" mentality involving Dem candidates' flaws and failures. "Republican attack dog ratchet effect" is practically their strategy these days. "Vote for us and don't do anything resembling requiring us to be accountable, or we'll sic our Republicans on you, despite having grossly similar policies and just being more stealth about it."

Liberals basically saying "Don't criticize Biden, if you don't suck his dick at every angle you're going to cause him to lose" is such fucking bullshit, and shows so little faith in the masses. This trolley problem thinking is basically just a fucking surrender. This reinforces the notion that we just have to suck up Biden doing all of Trump's policies thus far but in stealth, lest the monster return.

This only REINFORCES the sense of alienation people have that are causing them not to vote. It says "what you want doesn't matter, your duty is to keep the monster at bay."

This also feeds into the white house out of touch delusion that Biden is still doing well despite every indicator (even ones that are unreliable, shoddy, and prone to being nothing more then incumbent propaganda) saying he's not; since this same delusion is being actively encouraged as a matter of political propaganda and strategy, and has no grounding in the material.

Perhaps the most infuriating instance of this we encountered in recent memory was one lib getting in my mentions on another social network basically saying something along the lines of "if you don't know why criticizing Biden is bad right now, just ask a trans person," when we (A TRANS PERSON) were the one doing the criticism (we weren't even the only trans person in that thread. There were at least 6, all being equally critical).

Acting like criticizing Biden is what is going to bring Trump about (rather then...oh...you know...THE ACTIONS OF THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION) has the same sort of lack of faith in the people that "messy queer art is the same as doing [bad thing in said art, no matter how it's depicted] and causes it to happen" does. It's this declaration that the masses are stupid and need to be saved from themselves.

Which is EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE of how socialism is supposed to work.

Anyway we'll leave with that thought.

And like OP, if I see any Biden apologia I will clap back hard and block harder.
