I can just make a game in RPG Maker, right? I don't immediately have to set up a local git repo and figure out how the hell turn-based movement works? the idea makes my dumb CS brain bristle, but that's probably okay???

weird depressed person trying to make a game? actually not sure. yeah i should probably more thoroughly interrogate my appreciation of the referenced video game character

After being let go from my development job, I'd like to make a serious attempt at creating a game. So I'm looking for advice on which languages/frameworks I should be considering.
I guess I'm looking for the following:
High capability for performance/optimization
Not bare metal
Not a full engine
Not functional (as in language)
Open source (preferred)
I have experience in C#, python, C++ (I guess?)
too late i already started and it's a fucking mess
