horrors beyond your comprehension like a dog picking a fight with a lawnmower is overdone, I want to see more horrors beyond your comprehension like a dog drinking antifreeze because it tastes sweet

honestly a lot of the SCP stuff is writing the wrong kind of horror, in their main stuff the foundation is often way scarier than the stuff they're "protecting" people from. Like the entire concept of class D personnel, AKA "hey I got half my test subjects killed and executed the rest to maintain secrecy, can you abduct another 20 inmates from somewhere since we're literally the Deep State? thanks I'll put the paperwork through."

There is a lot of different perspectives when it comes to SCP that almost everyone will find something to like about it, but this in particular is why I got fascinated with The Serpent's Hand recently. Who's whole mission statement is acceptance and integration of the anomalous, and who's struggle highlights the foundation isn't even the worst deep state entity.

yeah, but i think there's a sub-set of people who like writing fiction that...for lack of a better word buys into its own "hype"? they write the foundation as needing to do this because things are so bad, but at least some of this is clearly self-fulfilling, and more generally, a bunch of things that want to be left alone and are like, actively asking to be left alone

yeah, they write it as if it's self evident that an organisation like that is a net positive, which has a lot of... "We can't defund the police because of [thing]" vibes to it? it feels like they're writing an organisation who's only response is throwing cops at a problem even if that actually makes it worse
