i hate the “don’t use second-person pronouns in essays” rule because i do already naturally do that but whenever i use the rhetorical you i’m punished for it even though it’s not the same as second-person you! i’m not actually addressing the reader! but it seems like i am. in this situation, one must resort to the usage of the word “one”
