@Sciman101
goodbye, to cohost
when I saw the news, i wanted to feel smart about it
that i wasn't surprised, the writing was on the wall. this was bound to happen
i wanted to feel like i was one step ahead
but i was stupid to think that would make it sting less
2 years is a long time, and nothing at all
i met new people
i saw amazing art
i read drama and discourse
for all the good and bad, i made something of a home here
and so did all of you
we made something here
and as sad as i am to see it go
im so happy i got to be a part of it
to the artists
the shitchosters
the lurkers
the essayists
to staff
and to you, dear reader good job!

i hope that you all find what you had here somewhere else

While I didn't have my account here long enough to experience what other people apparently did here, I know the feel. It's really painful to watch when a site like this, where so many people have been posting so many thoughts, goes down suddenly. There's a silver lining in the fact that y'all at least have some warning, and can do what you need to do to move.

On the note of what you're talking about here, I have found all the things that you are talking about somewhere else: Fediverse, aka Mastodon. Really, I came here to follow some artists I found interesting who weren't on there, and to encourage them to maybe start cross-posting there.

I highly recommend it, as it is not only another nonprofit, but is also run by users themselves setting up servers with whatever software they like. You may be able to find a server that is exactly what you are looking for in a social network, and there is a hope that someone from Cohost will set a server up specifically for Cohost users to migrate to. If that doesn't happen anytime soon though, you can always make an account on any of the existing servers, and move your account later, because the software all supports that.

If you are interested in that, and need me help, feel free to reach out to me: I am a volunteer on the network, and am actively working to bring in new users, especially ones having to migrate from other sites.
