Since the news hit, I keep being reminded of the logs in Talos Principle. The emails, messages and voice logs of the people facing the end of the world. Reading the posts on my home page gives me a very similar feeling than the one I had when playing Talos - with the important distinction that this time, I am also one of those last survivors waiting for the end.
I get that this is not nearly as severe a situation, the world will keep on going without Cohost being around, but I can't help but draw parallels. There's the initial despair, that never really fully goes away, but it gets overtaken by the efforts to save whatever can be saved, the desire to connect with each other "one last time", the slow, but ever growing appreciation for all the small things that were taken for granted, that most only notice with the coming of the end.
While I knew that no site I'm on will last forever, this is the first time I live through one closing down. I hate endings. Can barely handle them. But I'm gaining a newfound comraderie, or at least understanding, towards the researchers, programmers, people of the Talos Project.
This is probably very pretentious of me, making a mountain out of a molehill. But god fucking damn it, I really liked this molehill.
