If someone were to invent the Replicator in American society, it wouldn't be used to solve hunger. Chain restaurants would charge the same prices but employ fewer workers. Home appliances would start enforcing DRM on home-cooked meals.

I should probably go back and read it again. It seems uncomfortably prophetic, in a way I didn't appreciate at the time.
