i think we should take a break from teaching people computers and switch to the humanities. i think we'll be good for a few years on computer people
don't get me wrong--some of my best friends do computers. but we gotta balance this stuff out
I really wish knowing how to garden or cook or build structures was as economically valued as knowing how to make a website; the former sustains our lives and provides meaning for living while the latter is a great way to make capitalism more convenient.
nicky let me tell you how much I scream and rant and gnash my teeth and tear my hair wishing that the computer people I work with had a proper grounding in the humanities
As somebody who was briefly in an informatics course, I agree for the additional reason of I don't think pushing people towards pure computer educations is producing that many good computer people. I think you have to have a particular love/hate of the game if you're going to be a pure computer person (and even then a minimum knowledge of the humanities is still important)
(Not helped by the fact that that informatics course in particular put "IT-management" as an equal path alongside "Software Engineering". Had to deal with people who couldn't program at all despite being in an informatics course, because they were planning to do management)
