I once fell down a rabbit hole after reading something that implied that [some?] marsupials had a cloaca, which seemed to contradict what I thought I knew — and a discouraging number of hours later, I found a couple more references to them having a cloaca, as well as more diagrams that seemed pretty contradictory to their having a cloaca (cw diagrammatic gentletles), and zero references to their explicitly NOT having a cloaca (..iirc).
And I was sort of losing it until months later when I stumbled across what appeared to be seemingly anatomically correct nsfw art of an anthro kangaroo that made everything clear... if it's accurate (potentially-sanity-preserving answer: just as monotreme reproduction is like a blend with egg-laying but longer gestation periods compared to birds/reptiles, marsupial bits are like a blend with a shallow big hole with differentiated smaller holes that's surface-level enough to be arguable either way????).
So either I just wasn't that good at digging at the time, or the artist had access to knowledge that's relatively unknownnn
