The funniest fucking thing has happened to me and I'm REELING from figuring out what the hell is going on

This is what I THINK is happening. I'm so fucking confused right now. My reality has just been shattered and I'm trying to pick up the pieces.

@therealheathcliff is not actually The Real Heathcliff, it's @barabinson 's gimmick page. While trying to find websites and RSS to follow before Cohost goes away, I found The Actual Real Heathcliff's website, and then turned around and told @therealheathcliff to fix the RSS because there's nothing on it. But The Real Heathcliff is a "legitimate" (I GUESS) newspaper comic, so there's no way they would just be publishing to an RSS feed, never mind on Cohost. But because setting up a website and RSS is new to a lot of us, I genuinely assumed The Real Heathcliff's website was @therealheathcliff 's website and the RSS was empty because it was just thrown online a week ago. It's the default Wordpress RSS post, it made sense to me.

So basically, this entire fucking time, a gimmick page has been pulling my leg and I had absolutely no idea until said gimmick page didn't know about its own website. I had an enormous, colossal, galactic scale lapse in critical thinking and snapped back to reality VERY SUDDENLY ALL AT ONCE.

Fuck.

I basically had the opposite experience. I assumed the Heathcliff comics that were being posted to Cohost were a kind of surrealist parody of the real comic. When I found out that they were actual official syndicated comics it felt like my brain was melting.

Yeah I had this too. I figured either these were parodies of the newspaper comic, or maybe Heathcliff was a character invented by Cohost sickos, like The New Garfield was. Couldn't deal with it when I realized the truth.

no lie, this actually sorta happened to me too. Didn't come to the same conclusion by the same route, but yeah it sure took A Minute for me to realize that @therealheathcliff was not, in fact, the real Heathcliff in any capacity.
