the desire to play modded minecraft versus the annoyance of coming back to new versions of minecraft after not playing for a few months and finding out that a major breaking game update caused another mass extinction of mods and you have to go crawl curseforge and modrinth to find replacements with the same function but a different author and then you discover that yet another different core project used by everyone has had a fork because the former maintainers were transphobic and by the time you process all of this and get everything set up you're so exhausted you don't want to play anymore

I used to run a Telegram meme channel but very rarely post to it anymore. It became a chore to spend all day checking other meme channels and Twitter and Reddit for funny memes to forward to my channel, and I felt like the sheer volume of random memes I posted overshadowed the occasional original meme I would post.

The most genuinely useful and highly shared thing I ever posted to my channel was not even a meme. I made a longer text post summarizing the state of the PolyMC takeover and explaining what people need to do to keep safe until what eventually became Prism Launcher was ready to go, and it spread like wildfire.

Today I posted about the Curseforge/Bukkit account compromise and it's doing similar Numbers™. It feels good, it's something genuinely important and I feel like I helped in a meaningful way.

... Maybe I should have made a news channel all along.

If you see someone running directly towards danger with a HAYO! you can almost guarantee they played a lot of modded Minecraft as a child and have fond memories of reading the Industrial Craft 2 wiki for advanced crafting recipes.

Also never let them anywhere near a nuclear reactor.
