thinking about distinction between liquids, like i know that like... fruit juice is closer to water than it is to cooking oil

but water is like

the liquid right

is sesame oil or olive oil to vegetable oil as orange juice is to water

is there olive juice

no? and milk is between the two

this has bothered me for some time i do not understand chemistry

I mean yeah there is olive 'juice', olives are like 50% water, it's just separated out when they make the oil. I would assume like it doesn't taste good but who could say. maybe this is a business opportunity

With oils, there isn’t just one base liquid that all the other types of oil are composed of in addition to other stuff, so it’s not quite as simple as that

Oils are made of lipids, a class of molecule used by living things as energy storage. Lipids that are liquid at room temperature are usually called oils, while lipids that are solid at room temperature are called fats.
