i have a bit of a query for people on here who are more familiar with physical mediums. i had been working with casting resin epoxy in silicone molds i made myself a couple years ago and had to stop as my health had declined to the point i could no longer be up and working to that extent. i'm doing a lot better now but i am a little concerned about returning to resin work even with PPE since my health is still a bit precarious and also a bit concerned about environmental impacts of making more plastic, especially with something like resin.

does anyone know of good alternatives that might scratch the same itch? ideal would be if i could continue to use my silicone molds for it. or if you have any thoughts on environmental/health risks with resin and weighing the pros and cons i'd love to hear. i've just been working on painting some old casts i'd made but never finished and thinking "wow, i'd really miss working on stuff like this in some form if i just straight up quit"

Hmmm depending on the shape/depth of the molds, I wonder if you could use clay? I used to make stuff with polymer clay and that worked pretty okay with flexible molds. Polymer clay has to be baked and I'm unsure if fumes would be a concern, but air dry clay could be an option?

my molds are one piece jewel cut so they snap closed together, but i could potentially make new molds or cut them in half so they are able to be open and have clay squished into them. i've worked with polymer clay before and i'm strongly considering it as a back up option. polymer is also plastic but presumably less bad than resin??? might have to do more research on that front, thank you for the confirmation that polymer clay can work in molds though that's really helpful!
