[Guide to my worlds]

ADeerNamedMando
@ADeerNamedMando asked:

I just found your art and the characters look amazing!! Can I get an intro for them?

aw thank you so much πŸ’œ
hmm, an intro... there's a lot of ground to cover, so hope you're up for a decent size read haha. a lot of my OCs' arts give a decent bite-size intro already, too, but i'll try to give some extra detail. subject to updates!

these will be grouped roughly by who lives near one another / knows each other. not all of them have proper plot hooks yet... i've been kind of dragging my feet on a lot of plot until i get my social worldbuilding more concretely hammered out, but i've been making headway.

standard candles - my paranormal high-magitech multiversal space opera

  • Ruby and Diane enjoy a fairly idyllic lesbian life together as fashion designers in a busy Polis (the one pictured in that post, actually) since emigrating out of poverty (to a more socialistic country called Ibadan). i've kind of ended up using Ruby as my de facto poster child for Standard Candles since i pair her with people in artfight so often and people seem to like her, so i like to imagine the two of them are travel junkies. Ruby's a bubbly and strongheaded gal who will chew people out and beat them to death for her big shy wife, and she'll look great doing it.

β€” RUBIJA & RALADARAG SECTORS β€”

  • Okan & Laura are a couple of girls who drive a jumptruck together, moving small cargo across the Raladarag sector as aspiring owner-operators working for the logistics division of Starfruit, a massive holding company. as their job frequently takes them through warzones where piracy is not uncommon, their jumptruck is permitted to carry light weapons. and in their involvement with various minor intrigues of the sector they've nurtured a number of contacts in the underworld like Duong, daughter of a family of drug runners who are friends with Yusef. it helps that Laura used to be an arcane negotiator with a magitech IT firm whose devices make use of daemonic boons, so she can pull a few strings with her contacts in the spirit realm. she's also pretty crude and sly in private and public, while Okan is more stoic and straightforward, but Okan likes the banter.

  • Fumi, Sakina, Kayipu, Hang - a poly family (i use this term a lot since i personally prefer it over polycule) of girlfriends living out of Fumi's spaceship, in a trailer park for migrant workers in the lunar megacity and occult trading hub Ifezzan. after Fumi's job offer as an occult eco-technician (a witch who uses magic to tend a space colony's forests) fell through, the four of them said fuck it and decided to move out of their flyover planet homes to look for jobs along the Stargate Highway, no matter the risk. Fumi and Hang tend to butt heads as Fumi's more no-nonsense and pragmatic while Hang, though pragmatic in her own way, is more of a spiritualist and rambunctious jock - and also kind of impulsively self-destructive - but they support each other and their more demure girlfriends in their own way at the end of the day. Sakina, an avid collector and hipster nerd, dreams of getting into engineering and might join the family's friend Hayat in the factory across town. Kayipu is a very sweet and genuine, anxious mess who's also kind of the most stable breadwinner. she always manages to motivate herself through everything - despite the cost to her sanity.

  • Hayat & Layan (18+) are wives and good friends with the trailer park gals. Hayat is a tough honest spaceship mechanic / technician and gives them good deals on tune-ups and stuff. With the recent unexplained disappearance of a jumptender carrying officials from all sides of a heated Rubija sector conflict, the government has sought her skills with renewed urgency to staff a new arcane factory complex going up across the city, training local talent for a big national technology transfer and to exploit the physics-bending properties of the giant alien installation into which Ifezzan is built. so she's moving on up in the world, but conflicted about moving away from friends again, even if it's just a few tens of km. Layan is a housewife and a big tease, especially for Hayat who's very subby and easy to fluster despite her demeanor. They both like banter and cheesy comedies a lot.

  • Ricardo and Amaia work as a compliance lawyer and paralegal for Inner Sumatra Lanthanides, a company in the lucrative business of mining tectonically active planets and moons for rare-earth metals. Ricardo considers himself a conscientious liberal, unhappy with his bosses and dissatisfied with where he's let himself drift in life - and also a talking plushie who arrived in Known Space as a multiversal castaway, disappearing from his hometown in an alternate Earth where magic was real. Amaia was cast out of a coven of avatars who carry out the will of their pantheon in the mundane realm, high-minded, austere, and more than a bit miffed and unmotivated. but they work together well, perhaps seeing a common thread between them.

  • Smiles is an enigmatic heiress to the legacy of the Starfruit corporation, who's assumed a more private position out of the limelight since the mysterious death and backup corruption of her father Remontoire, a former celebrity CEO and notorious fount of dark money flowing to pro-market forces and reactionaries across Known Space. she once led Starfruit to dominate the occult technology space, centuries ago, and in the course of company research she gained magical abilities that she keeps mostly off the record.

β€” FTU HINTERLANDS β€”

  • Ponderosa, Nishama (18+), & Arizona / Uzma live together in a small town servicing jumptrucks and the occasional jumptender along a far-flung section of the Free Traders Union (FTU) Krasnikov tube network. Nisha and Arizona work at the local grocer and steal unsold food from the back, while Ponderosa's work requires her to travel often across the hinterlands of the core worlds, maintaining the health of the cybernetic forests that sustain interstellar, intercosmic civilization by diving into their dreams and rooting out toxic memetics. haven't fully worked out their dynamic yet; Osa's chill and levelheaded, Nisha is shy and bookish but adventurous, Arizona is boistrous and sweet.

  • Penelope stalks the spirit realm of Hybrasil as an assassin on a multi-year contract: the portal to Hybrasil only opens once every roughly 7 years, during which time his only contact with the outside world is through encoded messages in the dance of angel-touched insects on his dress, and heavy duty communications equipment when he returns to base camp to cleanse himself of Hybrasil's psychic distortions and ambient hexes. He is joined occasionally on his travels by a mysterious guiding spirit who appears in the form of a corporate mascot, blessing his magic bow and helping him fell certain spirits for reasons he keeps to himself.

β€” CALOOCAN UNITED CANTONS β€”

  • Amihan & Sulata - Amihan's a garbage lady. messy and unafraid to get her paws dirty, but also passionately collects cute trinkets, designs, and fashion, often from the trash. she looks out for Sulata, her wife who's kind of a shut-in, especially after contracting a memetic virus hampering her social faculties that's difficult to expunge via conventional means. while she moves along a wait list to be seen by a specialist neurotech facility, she makes dreamscapes for neuroware games - not just maps and worlds but custom sensoriums across the spectrum of posthuman sense types (and beyond), perceptual filters, and hypnotic-memetic suggestions. she isn't super skilled at the technical details, but gets modest traction online.

  • Rayna & Bulak - overworked construction workwomen roommates surviving a stuffy Caloocan Public Works dorm together. they're both hard-nosed, messy and unmotivated and constantly getting on each others' case over trivial shit even though neither of them are particularly worse than the other. but they always get along in the end, mostly. might have a thing for each other. Rayna's a brawny bird who can bend pipes and operates construction mecha, Bulak is a worksite secretary. they've probably run into Amihan now and again when construction refuse needs to be dealt with.

  • Nirva, Devine (18+), & Vesper - i haven't introduced them on here yet because i'd like to draw them a better ref, but Nirva and Devine are a pair of widowed wives, a dour ecological technician and a wry and chipper anthropologist working off her tour of duty for a Caloocan national research institute. when Vesper - former ship-mind and performer aboard a jumpyacht for the wealthy and elite - goes missing one day, they soon find his body lifeless with an empty cyberbrain, his soul taken by unknown magic, so they seek out the services of crafty witches (18+) from an organization called the Knights of Tsitigarbha to track him down and win him back, no matter what it takes.

β€” SEVEN SISTERS JOINT ADMINISTRATIVE DISTRICT β€”

  • Musau, Wulan, Haryati, & Alicia eke out a poverty-wage existence and cope with pollution as wives living beneath a rotting industrial park on the surface of Sylvia Polis, humankind's adopted homeworld since the Great Abduction launched Sylvia into the multiverse and cut contact with old Earth. honestly i love these gals but i haven't thought out their poly family dynamic too hard yet, aside from what you can read in their expressions. Alicia is the lovable butch oaf and kind of head of the household.

  • Lavana, Terry, and Aijaz are a poly trio and "distant neighbors of Alicia and co. in a balmy subsurface Liruma district, Lavana and Aijaz tag-team interviews for a local culture documentary when they're off duty as coworkers for the utility company while Terry busts his ass sweeping floors at a haunted supermarket, caught between trying to snag their supervisor's job, investigating items that might have slipped into the stock from a parallel universe, starting a band, and fixing up an old airbike."

β€” SENECA FALLS β€”

  • Kagami and his family, Naomi, Ceci, Jackie and Zoe are minor online celebrities thanks to Kagami and his quest for social network fame. his wife Jackie is his prize partner in crime, and Noemi tends to get haplessly dragged along for the ride too while Zoe helps promo his antics on her own popular style blog where she gets into too many online arguments. It falls to Ceci to barely keep them all out of prison, but she and her girls love each other despite it all.

  • Kelly & Kasi (18+) - Kelly's a rowdy trans party boy who loves pounding back brewskis with the boys while they gawk at his hefty chest and hearing them swoon when his chunky girlfriend picks him up and carries him out of the bar naked. i don't really have much plot thought out for these two yet haha...

β€” ELSEWHERE / ITINERANT β€”

  • Stacy - An enigmatic spirit known to deliver omens, good and bad, to dreaming denizens and wayward web-surfers of Known Space. she appears in the form of a cartoon or stylized drawing of a fox girl in an eerie cartoon city, though the style is known to vary widely.

  • Yukash is a Minaya, a species of tall fuzzy squid-like aliens who are mostly trans girls, and capable of flight in their native gravity and atmosphere conditions. A pharmacological alchemist and former-war-journalist-in-exile, Yukash ekes out a quiet life carefully avoiding the scrutiny of authorities who've put a bounty on her head for her last damning expose. Burying herself in alchemical research and stretching herself across every contact in the underworld and the spirit realm she can safely reach, she searches for a way to use alchemy to forge an ironclad magical identity-cloak that allows her to see her friends again while concealing her from all forms of surveillance.

  • Cantata, Taziya, Danguazhi, Arabel, Syzygy Endgame - Professional explorers serving aboard the FXD At the End of the Spring, an FTL dropship fielded by a member nation of the Free Traders Union, and a ship crewed by a diverse roster of multiversal castaways and aliens, some hoping they may one day be reunited with their homeworlds. Cantata is a butch jock punk heartthrob Maless with a knack for tracking and navigation and a reverence for the Sanctus goddess Irvar, Taziya a sweet and nerdy pint-size Plovian archaeologist, Danguazhi their beleaguered Banderi weapons officer. Arabel is a Minaya and Syzygy a member of a species of single-sexed shrimp hivemind girls who all have a peen; I haven't decided their roles on the crew yet.

  • Kokumo is a slim robot bunny witch who delves the rimworlds of Known Space for alien ruins pointing to the great secrets of the pancosmos. nobody's entirely sure how she's survived this long after years of nonstop wandering with nothing but her small starfighter and her tiny round bunny familiar to her name in the long run, but the little creature seems night-indestructible against even the worst that lost magitech has to throw at it. a minor legend and nuisance in the circles of explorers and relic hunters.

  • FM Funk - pronounced "femme funk", a snake-eel trans girl robot covered in a giant music synthesizer interface, touring Known Space in a moderately popular queer funk band.

mothership safira πŸ”ž - dragonoids fighting evil nightmares with skimpy mechas & cute sex

  • Kobold Princess Lavender and Dragon Queen Lilac jointly command the Dragon Mothership Safira, leading it on voyages through the depths of the scattered remnants of civilization in the Tourmaline Reach to heal broken worlds and do battle with the horrors from beyond.

  • Amber, Tanuki gal and Kitsune gal are top level ship staff reporting to the Queen herself. Amber is chief of engineering and personally oversees the design of Safira's cute mechs; tanuki (yet to be named) is the top-level administrator of Safira's dreamweb, the shared unconscious linking the ship together into a quasi-hivemind; and kitsune gal oversees the ship's ecological systems, gifted with a natural art for transforming into forest creatures and talking to the plants.

  • Sylvie is one of Safira's best bruisers in combat, with a mastery of sexual magic and her immense rear that just about spill out of her mech, and serves as supreme commander of their armored divisions in battle.

  • Premier Queen Lumina, Princess Astrid & Princess Peony are Lilac's superiors, commanding the entire flotilla of Motherships with which Safira travels the galaxy. Lumina is an airheaded ditz, so in effect her kobold princesses do the ruling for her: Astrid by dint of her brains, Peony through hype and sheer energy.
