I was never into Antiques Roadshow but this clip just sent me to space. the guy pulls out a drawer and you can visibly see the host's heartrate escalate. he can barely form sentences. you can tell he's not used to being surprised by things after a day-in-day-out routine of jewelry and silverware and chamber pots. this is footage of a nerd completely losing his composure and going into full on "ok ok ok but you have to understand" infodump mode in front of millions on broadcast television. i am so proud of this man. there are tears in my eyes

There's a beautiful sort of irony in the story of that chest. Because the builders of the chest used paneling that they considered to be scrapwood, the panels were preserved very well.
