I've been feeling a bit dissuaded about computerposting On Here as of late. It's true that engagement is a bad thing to aim for, but I think also that a lot of what I want to do is like, generate interesting conversations with people I care about, and I have not really been getting much of that. It seems like the engagement patterns on Cohost are not substantially different to Twitter in the sense that it seems like mostly only shitposts or bite size things with pictures go anywhere, and I don't particularly want to just relocate my Twitter addiction.

I don't usually get much response from my higher-effort write-ups, and I would like to know if they're more than just writing words into the void, since I could equally write words into the void at lower standards in a private notebook.

Is there something you want to know more about? Can I explain something better? Please comment!

Generally when I read your posts I go "oh, neat!" and slam the like button. I don't 100% understand what's going on, and generally it's not about something I'm super interested in? Like, many of your posts are about getting [piece of software I've never heard of before] to play well with [piece of software I use tangentially without thinking much about]

still, it's cool to see you excited about stuff!! so I always try to bap that like button but maybe I forget, idk

<3

some of my better workflow improvements have been from learning about the little pieces of software i use every day without thinking about. one day i read the ssh manual and found out you can access a little command system by hitting <enter>~? for help, <enter>~. to disconnect a broken session, and there's a trick to even forward ports without restarting the session.

like, did you know sed is basically ed, which is very similar to the vim command mode? so you can do little automated edits with it like sed -i '1c #!/bin/rm' idk.sh to change the first line of a file

i like ur posts a lot !! even the ones that arent in my area of expertise or that i dont understand. i think i forget to interact because by the time im done reading uve got me with two new tabs open looking for more info :3

I really enjoy reading your posts, they're always interesting new topics for me and you explain things well. I love how much cursed but genuinely useful knowledge you have. I tend to be fairly passive in public online spaces in general though so I don't interact much.

I enjoy them! I often don't have energy to engage with dev stuff outside of work to any depth past "oh that's cool", but if even 5% of what I read registers as "oh that's cool, I'm gonna save that for later" and 0.5% as "wow, that's right in my wheelhouse this week" it's a massive W. I appreciate your effortpoasting and would be sad if it went away
