it was cool to see all my iterations pretty much work instantly after spending such a long time just refining types. payoff was huge

basically checking the type of the argument; in that case, having a type class with an instance for (-> a); or for Nix, directly checking it
it's not. it's so much cooler (more evil (cooler)).
