The Beguiler

The Beguiler ruled alone as Empress of Alternia before the appearance of the Arrogate, now serving as his main advisor, as well as his matesprit. There are many rumors surrounding her methods of dealing with threats to the throne- rust eggs smashed in the caverns, other highbloods treading on her authority found dead in their own hives, the like. Some even say she may be plotting to kill her own matesprit to take back the throne, though others insist that if that’s what she wanted, she’d have done so by now.

The Forsaken

The Forsaken- or as he was known for most of his life, the Overseer- was one of the most powerful royals in all of Alternia, for a time. He was the main general of the army, under the Beguiler, though the Arrogate took over that role when he took the throne. Some think that that was the beginning of the Forsaken’s scheming against the throne, though there are plenty of other arguments to be made for when and why he began his plot. One way or another, he did- allying with a few other nobles, as well as the infamous Renegade Mindfang. His aim wasn’t to take or destroy the throne, merely to distribute some of its power amongst the higher ranking nobles by creating a council of sorts. Regardless, he failed, narrowly escaping with his life, unlike many of the others who joined him. He sought refuge with Mindfang, hoping to recover and perhaps eventually try to rebel again. Unfortunately for him, he failed to consider the fact that neither she nor her crew particularly respected him, only working with him in hopes of weakening the throne. As he no longer had anything that made him useful, yet still expected them to respect his highblood status and accept orders from him, Mindfang quickly lost interest in harboring him, damaging his wings beyond repair and tossing him to her crew. He died due to malnutrition and various injuries a scant few sweeps afterwards.

The Sorcerer

The Sorcerer serves the Beguiler and Arrogate as a spymaster of sorts, keeping an eye on the nobility and making sure things like the Forsaken’s attempted rebellion don’t happen again. He holds the third most power in the empire, only outranked by the two rulers themselves. He inherited his role quite suddenly, after evidence surfaced that connected his predecessor and mentor to the Forsaken. Some suspect foul play, but nothing to back it has ever been found.

The Arrogate

Stolen from the caverns as an egg, His Virulent Arrogation was raised separately from Alternian society by a purpleblood commonly known as the Great Swindler. He was instructed to hide his blood color for the first several sweeps of his life, as he was a threat to the throne and would supposedly be culled on sight. In actuality, the Swindler wanted time to shape him into a ruler who would change Alternia to better benefit the lower castes. After all, his shade was thought to be held only by gods, and if a living god couldn’t change Alternia, who could?

Unfortunately, he proved much less easy to manipulate than the Swindler hoped. When he was around nine sweeps old, they got into their final argument. If the throne was his by right, as he’d been told, why should he care for those who should serve him, including his teacher? They parted ways immediately after, and a sweep later he showed up outside the Beguiler’s palace, slaughtering half her guard before she appeared before him herself, managing to convince him to talk. She told him how his egg had been stolen, and that she would be happy to give him the throne, though not before she had convinced him to let her stay as his advisor, due to her experience. Under their rule, the trollian species expanded off-planet, though not to the extent of canon’s Condesce.
