You know, I think I figured out why people think SCSI is cursed,
It turns out, between SCSI-2 and SCSI-3 the pinout for the same connector /changed/
and then it changed again between SPI-1 (SCSI-3) and SPI-3 (SCSI-3)
I could just be reading these god awful tables wrong, and I can't be 1000% sure unless I get my hands on the final final standards and not just the bleeding-edge drafts, but it sure as hell seems like things got scrambled.
I think I figured it out, but I really can't be sure it's not just an error in the draft standards i'm looking at, as I've already found one error where a table repeated rows.
But it looks like between SCSI-2 and SPI-2 the pin mapping for the compact dsub and the CE50, at least for HVD swapped, And then when HVD (and SE for the most part) was dropped in SPI-5 it shifted around again, this time some ground pins moved around.
I /think/ that's what happend but again, I can't be sure,
Anyone want to throw 400 bucks at me so I can buy all the standards and double check to be sure :v /s
