When RightStuf licensed the ToHeart anime series in the US, they delayed releasing it because of "issues with the original video masters", specifically excessive jitter throughout and visible adhesive during every cut, which they tried to clean up the best they could (by 2006 standards, anyways).

Just as I was curious about how it looked beforehand, I found a rip of a Japanese DVD release with seemingly none of these changes. Here's a few frames of what happens with EVERY, SINGLE, CUT.

Beautiful.

I've always wondered how the fans who spent JP prices on one of these bungled releases felt when they came in. Like, back in the day I've blown $75 on the very first Slayers DVDs, which had reverse stereo audio, or $120 on Zeta Gundam with incorrect subtitles... But that stuff is peanuts compared to a $400 box of tapes that looked like this. Did you even get to return it, I wonder?

For my part I was curious about this one; the BD box of Slayers is such a hideous upscale that the guy who ripped it had to add a note that said "i swear i didn't mess up the compression, it actually looks like this". But the Amazon customers don't seem to mind much at all! JP customers in general seem a lot more tolerant of low-quality high-priced releases like this.
