ohhh that's right, on cohost I can like pictures of giant dingdongs without worrying that this will randomly display a giant dingdong to whichever of my friends would enjoy that least

this is so freeing it's unbelievable

another perk: over the years i slowly got turned off of liking tweets of folks posting e.g. their commissions, or basically anything else they didn't create, because it felt like i was rewarding them with Algorithm Points despite not having actually done the thing. like it was such a bummer whenever i saw something that had taken off and the first reply was just "oh i found this on reddit". but now it doesn't matter!! i can just like it and not reblog it and i'm not part of any weird sense of momentum!!

this whole system is why I couldn't follow some friends because the second I would, Twitter would go "hey Roxy follows this person" and show huge bazoongas to all of my followers, a not-insignificant chunk of whom are minors because I'm making games that target an ESRB rating of E-E10

my favorite thing like this with Cohost is that I can just reply to stuff. I can talk at other commenters, talk at OP, whatever, and nobody will see it except people already looking at the post's replies, something even places like tumblr have historically struggled with despite already being less hostile than twitter
