thinking about my blog

and wondering if i would enjoy it more if it were less of a blog and more of a collection of pages with a categorized index

timelines make everything ephemeral; newer is better and easier to find, older is lost and outdated

some things are reasonable to freeze in time, but... sometimes i just want to write about some facts, which are timeless

(having this problem with cohost too; stuff like my css posts are timeless but you can't find them unless i put together an index which i keep forgetting to do)

I’ve also been feeling this for my website. I’ve got some stuff organized this way and I’m much happier to mess with it than to write a blog post.

have you seen the “pin tag to profile” feature? as long as each category of thing you want to index has a specific consistent tag, it’s functionally the same as a category index

i have, but that still puts them in a chrono interface where you just kinda have to... scroll backwards through big pages of entire posts

But when you have the category indexes, in what order should they be presented? Random? Alphabetical? Number of pageviews? Your own idea of importance?

yeah i feel more sites should do this, especially if they aren't being updated very often. here's a good example of a non-linear articles page from a site i really like, for reference purposes: https://www.bikobatanari.art/articles
