you tricked me into googling ryan reynolds and discovering that one of his most recent movies is Free Guy (2021), where he plays a guy who discovers he's a background npc in an open world video game, a premise that could be extremely cool, which makes me wince all the harder knowing how absolutely dreadful a hollywood treatment of it must have been

We watched it! It was a nice way to fill our time during an otherwise eh day, but it isn't exactly a great movie... at all. Was fun though!
if you're going to give me this premise then i need you to put on your big boy shoes and make a movie that grapples with the nature of existence or what's the point
I watched it while bored one night and it was astonishingly good. By which I mean it was decent on an absolute scale (7/10), but relative to my rock-bottom expectations - well I was astonished! For sure one of the least-bad movies about gamedev. Very watchable.

Yeah I dunno people are strange. I read the RPO book and it was about 4x as long as it should have been for the core idea. Not bothered watching the movie.

I watched it and it was pretty cool, not a GREAT movie by any means but still a decent time. Plus, there was only a LITTLE of disney flaunting their owning star wars lmao, but given the way the movie was set up (no spoilers) it makes sense I guess

the intro music certainly was a choice though lmao
