i beat my house

and then finally spoiled myself on the handful of things i could not find or even imagine how to find in my wildest dreams

and i don't think i'm exaggerating when i say this is one of the greatest doom maps of all time. this is a masterpiece. there is absolutely no question that this will win a cacoward; the question is whether they will give it multiple cacowards, or perhaps invent a much bigger cacoward to award to it. i need everyone to play it so i can fucking squeal about it

i don't want to drop a pile of spoilers but i WILL give you two tips

if the combat seems too hard,

open the crate in the garage

and if it still seems too hard,

go through underhalls first

it is a staggering masterpiece, and yet at the same time, i feel like i've been waiting for this ever since gzdoom gained the necessary feature

and even better it's something that is fundamentally doom and could not exist apart from it

for sure, the way it plays with meta aspects of doom mapping is incredibly effective. it's just got so much going on and succeeds on so many different levels.

given some stuff you can find in the map, i'm skeptical, but i'm genuinely not sure either way, and the author hasn't posted anything on doomworld in the two weeks since he dropped this

I clicked through the links in the announcement post in the DoomWorld thread and there’s a whole GDrive, including a photo of an obituary clipping from a newspaper. So if it’s meta-storytelling it‘s very committed to the bit.

It doesn't take very much photoshop skills at all to make a picture of a real-looking newspaper clipping. I'd note it also uses the same weird fake cgi-looking face for its picture.

yeah i'm 95% sure there is no dead friend and it's all a (fun) bit. i have been surprised just about everyone seems to be taking the story as true (offering condolences and such), though of course that is kinder/safer if one is choosing to comment in the Myhouse thread.

i think i had to use freeze very briefly just to get into that last area, because i accidentally made a save with them filling up the entrance and i could no longer get in there to get the ammo

it IS possible to get all the weapons btw, but you have to route carefully AND solve a puzzle that is only hinted at... elsewhere

I'm a bit confused, I cleared the house by collecting key cards, then cleared underhalls and it just kept going with doom 2? is underhalls supposed to take me back to house?
