the only bad thing about twitter dying

is that it probably means that twemoji is going to die too, and that is by far the best emoji set, considering that they actually understand the prompt of emoji as fucking text characters

look at this twemoji taco! it's not realistic, it's a cartoon, because it's a text character!

incorrect hot takes about emojis aside (i actually like most apple emojis) iirc twemoji is still going and discord is taking up the mantle. i think they hired the guy who was running it? they kinda had to because discord also depends on twemoji and so their only other alternative was to make their own

thankfully some ex-twitter people forked twemoji and it's still being actively maintained at https://github.com/jdecked/twemoji, and as ewie points out discord has their own fork as well

also yeah don't get me started on how much I hate what apple did to emoji by attempting to make them realistic

they've got a separate fork but it doesn't look like it's been updated since march so maybe they switched to jdecked's fork: https://github.com/discord/twemoji

likewise we're really glad to hear this. twemoji is the one with our favorite rendition of 🦋, which is an important character to us because of its utility for warning people about time paradoxes
