troublesome fox girl

hello i like to make video games and stuff and also have a good time on the computer. look @ my pinned for some of the video games and things. sometimes i am horny on @squishfox

i keep finding myself doing this

  • scrolling back some pages on home or a tag or my bookmarked tags

  • becoming Sated on Posts and going to check my notifs or write some posts or something

  • later, becoming Post-Hungry

  • but now there are only a couple new posts at the top of home. i know there are more i haven't read, Back There somewhere, but it is now a pain to guesstibrowse my way backwards until i reach new stuff again, and i end up not doing it

this is worse on a phone since the end of the page is the latest news and not actually the next-page button

unclear what the solution here is but it seems like a conspicuous drawback of only having "see more" as navigation. which i guess links into "it's hard to browse back through my own posts" too

maybe part of it is feeling "lost" after a few pages — i don't know how far back i am. of course "number of pages" is meaningless, and i can time by the timestamps, but i think twitter trained me out of that (because retweets don't show the time of the retweet)

in reply to @lexyeevee's post:

I some people see it as a "stops you from doomscrolling" thing, but sometimes I'm just curious as to what I missed 🤭 maybe flagging posts that go above a certain line on the screen as "seen" then letting you toggle seen posts on the side of your feed? feels like maybe more work than it's worth.

this is why I'd much rather see things formatted like an email inbox with threaded conversations, or at least like an RSS reader with a means of accumulating posts which you dismiss as you're done with them.

The Google Reader UI was pretty damn good for this.

cohost apparently does publish RSS feeds (although im not sure if you can get one for "people i follow, in aggregate")

and with the caveat that i absolutely have not even started looking at it because what even is executive function lol, i did want to try loading something from this site into an RSS reader just to see if that's a good way to deal with backlogged posts™
