troublesome fox girl

hello i like to make video games and stuff and also have a good time on the computer. look @ my pinned for some of the video games and things. sometimes i am horny on @squishfox

i am really bad at using tags for Discovery, like i don't know that it gels with my brain. i cannot conceive of what kinds of things people might tag browse for. i don't really do it myself because (a) i don't really expect any particular tag to be populated with much and (b) i mostly find it more compelling to hop between people

i'm bad at this on mastodon too. there is just something very unintuitive to me about picking tags completely arbitrarily, based on what everyone else is probably using. i can deal with The Cohost Global Feed, because someone declared that into existence. but guessing them makes no sense to my poor little brain

(now thinking about the specific kind of twitter person who doesn't quite get it and will tweet stuff like "Our hotdogs are #HalfOff on #Tuesdays!" like anyone is searching for those things)

in reply to @lexyeevee's post:

I have the same issue. I kinda wish cohost had booru style tag browsing, so you could just look at a list of all the tags and decide what to look at from there (I wish a lot of non-porn websites did that kind of thing tbh)

I'm the same in that I'd rather "hop between people", and the idea that people want to keep track of tags, or trending pages, or so on, is just such a foreign concept to me. In my mind the kind of person that mindlessly consumes the ever-populating feed on Twitter etc. based on #inserttaghere is not in it for any substance.

Maybe the discovery feature we need is not most active tags by what's being posted, but instead by what's being viewed. Would be a bit of a mix of what people are looking for (and actually finding) along with tags of posts that go viral by people's feeds.

i have never used a hashtag on the fediverse (or my brief time on twitter), i do not understand them at all (i want to be discoverable why?)

i should probably try to learn how to use the tag system here, but the concept still eludes me
