there's something about cohost

Yes. The big inviting input box with an enormous character limit and powerful styling abilities invites effortposts, the more limited discoverability and engagement visibility discourages engagement bait, the site's overall styling being very straightforward and web 1.0 combined with the powerful but limited tools of inline css and markdown suggest that polish is purely optional, a philosophy of preferring to be interesting but jank over being a perfectly polished hollow little nothing.
