i wonder if the phrase "IM" / "instant message" is completely obsolete and subsumed by "texting", "DMing", etc

i very seldom hear anyone say IM or IMing or similar, but in ye olde days that was a whole thing with AIM, MSN, etc

i found the song "less than three" on youtube

and multiple comments were asking what an IM is

which, i mean, reasonable i guess — we are long beyond the point where "instant" is impressive
