I've completely given up on modern big-budget games. it feels like they all want to be the only game you play, especially contemporary multiplayer games. Disco Elysium, Cave Story, and System Shock 2 aren't trying to sell me booster packs or post-game content. Cocaine Diesel, Quake III Arena, and Team Fortress 2 don't demand that I log in every 24 hours for daily rewards. shit, the last AAA game that I bought was Prey, which came out, Jesus, six years ago? before that, Doom 2016 and Eternal. I haven't bothered with anything since*. I might snag Deathloop at some point, but. eh.

*well I did preorder the system shock remake but like. that's a remake of an old game,

through the private capture of former public space, and limited time with busy schedules, games are where people hang out. they're the the mail, the 7/11 storefront, the taco bell dumpster lot of the 21st century.

So they try and capture people by capturing their friends, and it works.

I don't know that the SS remake qualifies as AAA; it's made by a small company with some industry veterans. Though they're about to be purchased by Atari SA, which means they might soon become a front for money laundering

I rarely play modern games in general nowadays. Even the ones that don't have microtransactions are usually full of grinding and lack features. I know they have microtransactions but even the WWE games are so boring now. I remember back in the day where they had adaptive story modes that depended on who you played as, tons of variety with how you could fight in tons of areas and more freedom for doing things like placing tables and other things. Nowadays it's so limited, and I feel like every match I do plays the exact same.

@NireBryce 's point is really spot-on; some of the yuri Discords I'm on skew towards a younger audience, and most of them all hang out in Genshin Impact or whatever the latest Final Fantasy MMO is.

I'm gonna be torn when Dragon Age IV drops. Bioware is really the only AAA studio that has a shot at my money anymore, and that's really only out of momentum investment in Dragon Age and Mass Effect.
