I made a lot of classic first Kickstarter mistakes with Teleportraiture. The main one was letting people model for portraits for only $50 without buying the portrait. Which gave me a nice long series but that barely covered materials much less actually paying for my time, and wasn't really enough for subjects to commit time the way they needed to. I did get a surprising number of strangers signing up for the experience, the kind who just backed tons of Kickstarters because it was new in 2011, so, STEM elites. Adrian was the only person of color, I think.

This is a portrait of the person the feelings in all my other paintings from this era are for. Notably, it is the first Teleportrait, done from a live pose over iChat video - a genre I would circle back to in a self portrait and a Kickstarted series 2 years later. By the time all that zoom posing started happening I was OVER it.
Best of luck to anyone in a long distance relationship. I have not talked to this person in 14 years. how you doin
