So you've just joined Cohost. Sweet! We hope you like it here!

But.. there's no recommended feed, or Trending, or For You. How do you find folks?

Cohost has no algorithm to speak of. This is by design. So, if you want to find folks to follow, you're going to have to put in a little bit of effort:

Browse Tags

This is honestly the best method I can recommend, especially if you've hopped on and don't know folks already on the site. Use Search, pop in a tag you're interested in - maybe a game, or movie, or fandom you like, or a cause you are interested in - and browse the posts. See someone post something you like? Check out their profile, maybe give them a follow!

You can also Bookmark tags and then swap to your "Bookmarked Tags" feed at the top of the page, which aggregates all of your Bookmarked tags into one feed for you.

Relatedly: If you want your stuff to be found more easily, tag your posts well! The tag suggestion pop-up when you're entering a tag can be super helpful for this.

Look Folks Up

If you're here, you're probably coming from another social media site, where you have some folks you follow. Use Search and see if they have a page here! I've been surprised a few times by folks I followed elsewhere and then found here.

Make an Intro Post

You don't have to do this if you don't want to, but a common way folks on here make themselves more visible is to make an introductory post - say hello, share what interests you have, maybe a picture if you're feeling super fancy.

The key part for an intro post is the tags - there are several tags related to new cohost users (there are several in this post, like New to Cohost, Cohost Newbie, and Welcome to Cohost, as well as Intro Post, Introduction, etc), but also include tags related to your interests, stuff about you, etc etc that you want folks to find you with. It's common to find intro posts with tons of tags on them, this is why!

Rebugs

Rebugs, rechost, repost, shares, whatever you want to call them, once you've followed some folks, you'll start seeing their shared posts on your main feed. This is how I've found most of the folks I follow currently - someone I follow shared a post, I checked out the OP's profile, they were cool, so I followed them.

It might take a little bit of time to build up a nice roster of folks you're following, and it might be a bit quiet until then - but that's ok! You'll get to where you want to be, I know you will :eggbug-uwu:

That's all I've got for now. I hope this helps!

Good post!

Just commenting to add for other people that I mostly find new people to follow through seeing good posts in my bookmarked tags and clicking on profiles, so yes, bookmark tags and tag your posts! I never tagged anything on Twitter because I didn't want random people yelling at me, but cohost isn't like that.

I'll add that a great way of finding people is by asking people to give you recommendations - posting into the Global Feed tag and saying something like "hi, I'm new here, I'm interested in architecture and cats, who would be good people for me to follow?" will almost certain give you at least a few good hits
