This is only, huh, runs math ~7% of the 4000+ Kaleidoscope schemes I'm going through for @macthemes but it's already pretty neat to scroll through the Gallery view in Airtable for the base I'm putting together, some very cool stuff in the list already.

The images above don't show it but: I'm taking 3 screenshots for each scheme:

  • a capture of the "About" box

  • a "showcase" screenshot showing random windows/menus

  • a screenshot of "KSA Sampler" which replicates the "sampler" window used on the Kaleidoscope Schemes Archive

Is this insane? Yes. How long will it take? I don't want to think about it 😂. But at least I'll have pretty good captures of all of these interesting insights into the Mac customization scene from that era. I have fun ideas for a website to showcase all of this.

Something I’ve been wondering about… where do you download these? Like, is there a repository these are all pulled from, or are they just ones you’ve collected off of sites like DeviantArt and whatnot?

Oh no I'm going through the 4000 files archives that are available on Macintosh Repository/Archive.org. But even then that wasn't as convenient for me because Macintosh Repository has a an instance of InfiniteMac with all the schemes neatly arranged inside of a disk image and I wanted that disk image so I had to get sneaky to obtain it.

There's a lot of small tech things going on to not make me go insane, it'll be fun to document!
