happy friday! we held off on patch notes this week so that we could line them up against a major feature release that was just about ready to go.
Audio uploads!!!
- You can now upload audio files to posts!!
- attach them the same way you would an image (clicking the paperclip icon in the toolbar or dragging and dropping)
- we support MP3, AAC, WAV, and FLAC
- sorry OGG likers. we don’t do any transcoding for audio on the server, and it’s not supported in safari so we’re not shipping it for now.
- colin’s a [clears throat] Vorbis liker too and he’s not thrilled about having to leave it out either, but only about 80% of users could play it, compared to 95%+ for these formats.
- sorry OGG likers. we don’t do any transcoding for audio on the server, and it’s not supported in safari so we’re not shipping it for now.
- file size limits are the same as for images; 10mb for cohost plus subscribers, 5mb for everyone else
This has been on our Desired Feature List since before launch, and we’re glad we finally had the time to make it happen. This is phase one of our efforts to rework and improve media attachments overall. Please let us know if you have any feedback!
Here’s what else is new this week:
we've been fixing a couple bugs over the past hour; now you should be able to post WAV and FLAC files as intended. if you're continuing to have trouble uploading WAV or FLAC files, please get in touch with us!

(and for the bookmarked tags feed fixes; i am definitely noticing the performance increase on my slower bookmarked feeds!!)
