i'd like to think that how the phonemic hats are removed after a syllable (e.g., straight up vs. at an angle vs. with a polite tipping motion, etc.) and how they are held between syllables (e.g., solemnly against chest vs. dangling off fingers vs. placed on a smooth surface, etc.) plays a huge role in both the conveyed tone as well as the overall personality of the speaker
