Before you set out for revenge, dig two holes: that way that third hole you dig to bury the person you're getting revenge against will be well-practiced

Before you set out for revenge, dig two holes: one for each of the two people you're getting revenge against

Before you set out for revenge, dig two holes: one for each of the eyes, and then you can dig the corresponding smile or frown depending on how the revenge goes

Before you set out for revenge, dig two holes: one perpendicular to the name of this town in a desktop drawer, the other as an exit wound in a foreign nation to join the home of the one you're getting revenge on

Before you set out for revenge, dig 7 holes: One on its lonesome. Then two to the right of the first one, but make sure the right-most one is sized for someone slightly shorter than average. Then beneath the first one again, dig two more holes of equal size. And lastly, move to the right of that last batch and dig two more holes: one hole in the same orientation as the all the prior holes, and then a second one perpendicular to the first hole, with both bottom-most sides flush with one another.

before you set out for revenge, dig 2 holes. Then, plant a potato chunk in each hole, with some eyes growing out of that piece. Fill in the holes and when you come back after getting revenge with any luck you can have some delicious baked potatoes!

It's hard to learn the "new" lyrics after so many years of singing them the other way. If you write the name of a town on a piece of paper, and put it in a drawer, then a perpendicular hole would just be into the floor, which achieves the same result!
